Occupation: homemaker
No. of Children: 2
Comments: Survived the May 22, 2011 EF-5 Joplin tornado. Randy and I lost our home and lived at the Residence Inn for a year while building a new home. Really makes a person rethink their priorities. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion September 28th. My email is: Stanley.judy1@gmail.com ***************************************************************************************************************************************** OBITUARY Judith Kay 'Judy' Stanley, age 67, Joplin, passed away at 9:10 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2017 at Research Hospital, Kansas City. She was born September 21, 1950 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to the late Maxey R. Echols and Pallie Armstrong Echols. Judy was a homemaker and alongside her husband, Randy, a longtime landlord in the Joplin area since 1977. She took pride in the fact that they never had to evict a tenant. Judy stayed busy with her children's activities, serving as a room mother at Kelsey Norman Elementary and troop leader with the Girl Scouts. She volunteered by delivering food with the Meals on Wheels program and Christmas baskets at the Joplin Elk's Lodge. Judy enjoyed crafts, sewing, biking, taking yoga classes, cooking and hosting themed dinner parties. She was a founding member of a decades old BUNCO group, where she connected with many lifelong friends and shared many memories and lots of laughs. She and Randy loved to travel. They attended the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Festival, rode snowmobiles (alongside bison) at Yellowstone National Park and marched in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Judy was a former member and board member at the YWCA and longtime member of First Community Church. She was active with several church committees and volunteered at their annual Christmas Dinner, serving food to hundreds of people. Judy was known for her giggle. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her. She married Randy Stanley on April 3, 1976 in Joplin. He survives at the home. Additional survivors include two daughters, Angela Stanley and husband, Chris Drake, Kansas City, Missouri, April Stanley Njari and husband, Njari Gitonga, Falls Church, Virginia; granddaughter, Evelyn; one brother, Jerry Echols and wife, Brenda; two sisters, Barbara King and husband, Fred, Colleyville, Texas, Nancy DeLoach, Springdale, Arkansas; three sisters-in-law, Mary Kay Thompson and husband, Tod, Carol Wood and husband, Jim, DeeDee Stanley and her fur baby, Lucy. She was also survived by many extended family and countless friends. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Echols and both of his wives, Janie and Judy; Judy's sister, Linda Echols; three brothers-in-law, Mickey Stanley, Dub DeLoach, and Frank Belknap; her father-in-law, Stewart Stanley and mother-in-law, Naomi Taylor. Memorial services are planned for Friday at 1:00 p.m. at First Community Church of Joplin. Roger DeLoach, Judy's nephew, will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Joplin Elks Lodge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society, to the Christmas Basket Fund at the Joplin Elk's Lodge, or to a charity of your choice, all in care of Parker Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Comments: A memorial service celebrating the life of Ron Freeman (65) will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 13, at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Tom Padgett will officiate. Ron was born February 13, 1950, in Wagoner, Oklahoma, the son of Carl and Marguerite Freeman. He attended Wagoner and Muskogee public schools, earned a bachelor's degree from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, studied zoology at the University of Oklahoma, and earned a master's degree in wildlife ecology from Oklahoma State University. He worked as a biologist for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation before joining the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Brunswick, Georgia, and later in Auburn, Alabama. His work as a wildlife biologist took him to wildlife refuges throughout the southeastern United States where he studied and promoted the conservation of migratory birds, deer, and endangered species. Ron was a steward of the land and a protector of its inhabitants. He showed all around him how to appreciate the harmony of nature. His academic and professional work advanced the study and protection of a number of species, from the coyotes of the Oklahoma plains to the small kangaroo rats along the sandy banks of the Canadian River to the deer and wildlife of the Southeast to the re-establishment of the Eastern indigo snake in Alabama. A walk in the woods with Ron was not only a pleasure but also a lesson in the intricacies of the natural world. Above all, Ron was passionate about his family. He cherished each moment with them and in recent years delighted in learning to cook and prepare meals for them. He was a lifelong baseball fan and fisherman. He had a keen knowledge of a vast array of subjects sharpened by his extensive love of reading. Ron is survived by his wife of more than 46 years, Glenda Knowles Freeman; a daughter, Jennifer Sowle (Cameron) of Dallas, Texas; a son, Scott Freeman (Michelle) of Huntsville, Alabama; two grandsons, Jackson and Dylan Freeman of Huntsville; a brother, Bobby Freeman of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and a sister, Debbie Stephens of Wagoner, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jackie and Chris Freeman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Friends of the Savannah Coastal Wildlife Refuges, designated for Blackbeard Island. To donate, visit their website at http://www.coastalrefuges.org/. On the left is a link for donations "Join, Renew, Donate...". In the comments section, note "In memory of Ron Freeman." Or mail checks to Friends of Savannah Coastal Wildlife Refuges, P.O. Box 16841, Savannah, GA 31416. Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home & Crematory is directing. www.jeffcoattrant.com
